Locally made cheese places at the World Cheese Awards

Posted by Anna Laurin on

Since 1995, U.K.-based Guild of Fine Food (GFF) has supported, celebrated and encouraged independent food and drink retailers and the producers that supply them. It publishes the industry’s leading magazines Fine Food Digest, Good Cheese, Best Brands and Great Taste Book, and GFF also organizes the Great Taste and World Cheese Awards, runs the Fine Food Show North and a number of Great Taste Markets, as well as train individuals in cheese, deli products and business matters relating to fine food retail. So, you could say that GFF is a good judge of cheese.

At the 33rd Annual World Cheese Awards, hosted by the Asturias Paraíso International Cheese Festival in Oviedo, Spain, GFF awarded The Creamery’s colby jack cheese produced by our local Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) cheese plant a bronze award.

Our winning colby jack cheese was one of nearly 4,000 cheeses sent in from 45 countries to be judged by 250 technical experts, buyers, retailers and food writers representing 38 countries, who looked at the rind and the body of the cheese, color, texture, consistency and above all, its taste. The top ranked cheeses were then judged a second time by the 16-member international super jury of internationally recognized experts.
